Privacy Policy
The short version. Roomier works entirely on your iPhone. Your photos and videos are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. There is no account to create, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. The only data that leaves your phone is what you choose to send us by email, and the purchase information Apple shares with us when you buy Roomier Pro.
1. Who we are
Roomier ("Roomier", "we", "us", "our") is an iPhone app that helps you find and clear out duplicate, similar, blurry and oversized photos and videos. It is developed and operated by an independent developer based in Canada. You can reach us at hello@roomierapp.com.
This policy explains what the app can access on your device, what it stores, and the little we receive. The summary above is accurate on its own.
2. What the app accesses on your device
Your photo library
Roomier asks iOS for permission to access your photo library. The app cannot see any photo until you grant it, and you can change or revoke the permission at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Photos. If you grant access to only a selection of photos, Roomier works with that selection.
With permission, the app reads the following about each item, on the device:
- The item's identifier, type (photo, video, Live Photo, screenshot), creation date, pixel dimensions, file size, and video duration.
- Whether you have marked it as a Favorite in the Photos app, so that Roomier never proposes a Favorite for clearing out.
- A small thumbnail and a numeric "feature print" produced by Apple's on-device Vision framework. The feature print is a list of numbers that describes what the image looks like; it is used only to compare your photos with each other to find duplicates and similar shots. It is not a face template and cannot be turned back into the photo.
- A sharpness score computed from the thumbnail, used to find blurry photos and to pick the best shot in a group.
Roomier does not read the location data stored in your photos, does not run face recognition, and does not identify people.
Storage information
The app reads how much storage your iPhone has in total and how much is free, and adds up the size of your photos and videos, so it can show you how much room you have and how much you can get back.
3. What is stored, and where
Everything Roomier keeps is stored in the app's own private area on your iPhone, in a local database. This includes:
- The index described above (identifiers, sizes, dates, scores, feature prints, and which items were grouped together).
- Your decisions in the app: which items you swiped to keep or to clear out, which you skipped, and what is waiting in the app's trash before you confirm.
- Your progress and preferences: which months you have gone through, whether you have seen the intro screens, your streak, the amount of room you have made, and the number of items cleared out.
- Whether Roomier Pro is active on this device (see Purchases below).
None of this is sent to us. It is protected by the same iOS sandbox and device encryption that protects the rest of your phone, and it is included in your device backup if you back up your iPhone (iCloud Backup or a computer). Deleting the app deletes all of it.
4. What we do not collect
- We do not receive your photos, videos, thumbnails, feature prints or any information about their content.
- We do not require an account, so we do not collect your name, email address, phone number or password.
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not use advertising networks, and we do not sell, rent or share personal information with data brokers or advertisers.
- We do not use third-party tracking or fingerprinting, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. The app never shows the iOS "Allow tracking" prompt because it does not track.
5. Deleting and changing photos
Roomier never deletes or changes anything on its own. Every change to your library starts with an action you take in the app, and iOS then shows its own system confirmation before anything happens.
- Clearing out. Photos and videos you clear out are moved by iOS to the Photos app's Recently Deleted album, where they stay for up to 30 days and can be recovered from the Photos app. After that, iOS removes them permanently.
- Compressing a video (Roomier Pro) creates a smaller copy of the video on your device and, after you confirm the iOS prompt, moves the original to Recently Deleted.
- Turning a Live Photo into a still (Roomier Pro) saves a regular photo from the Live Photo and, after you confirm the iOS prompt, moves the original to Recently Deleted.
Because these are changes to your own photo library, you are responsible for reviewing what you clear out. We recommend keeping a backup of your library (for example, iCloud Photos) regardless of which apps you use.
6. Purchases
Roomier Pro is sold through Apple's App Store as in-app purchases (a weekly or yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase). Apple processes the payment. We never see your payment card, billing address, or Apple ID password.
To unlock Pro, the app receives from Apple a signed record of your purchase: the product bought, its status, and when a subscription renews or expires. This record is stored on your device and checked when the app opens. If you tap Restore purchases, Apple sends the same record again for the Apple ID signed in on the device.
Apple's handling of your payment information is described in Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple also gives us aggregated, anonymous sales reports that do not identify you.
7. Notifications
If you turn notifications on for Roomier in iOS, the app can remind you to come back and finish a clear-out or keep a streak going. These reminders are scheduled on your device by the app itself. Roomier does not run a notification server and does not collect a push token. You can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Roomier.
8. Diagnostics and analytics
The app does not send usage analytics to us. If you have opted in to "Share with App Developers" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash logs and aggregated statistics with us. Those reports are controlled by Apple, do not include your photos, and can be turned off in the same place.
If we add privacy-preserving product analytics in a future version (for example, to learn which screens are used most), we will update this policy before doing so. Any such analytics would never include your photos, thumbnails, feature prints, or file names.
9. Support email
If you email hello@roomierapp.com, we receive your email address and whatever you write, including any screenshots you attach. We use it only to answer you and to fix problems you report, and we keep it as long as needed for that. Our email is handled by an email service provider that processes messages on our behalf.
10. Retention and deletion
- App data stays on your device until you delete the app, or until you clear the index by rescanning. Deleting the app removes the local database completely.
- Your photos are managed by the iOS Photos app, not by Roomier. Items you clear out follow the Photos app's Recently Deleted rules described above.
- Purchase records are held by Apple under your Apple ID for as long as Apple keeps them. We keep no copy beyond the record on your device.
- Support emails are deleted when they are no longer needed to help you, unless we must keep them to meet a legal obligation.
11. Children
Roomier is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app collects no personal information from anyone, there is nothing for a parent to request that we delete, but you are welcome to contact us with any concern.
12. Security
Because your data stays on your device, its security depends mostly on your iPhone: the app's private storage is protected by the iOS sandbox and by device encryption when your phone is locked with a passcode. The app communicates only with Apple (for purchases and for fonts or other system services provided by iOS). This website is served over HTTPS and sets no cookies. It loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the font files are requested; no other third-party resources are loaded.
13. Your rights
We hold almost no personal information about you, so most rights are exercised by you directly on your phone: you can view everything the app stores in the app itself, and delete it by deleting the app. Where a law gives you rights over personal information we do hold (for example, a support email), you can ask us to access, correct, or delete it by writing to hello@roomierapp.com. We will respond within 30 days.
- Canada. We handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws. You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you are not satisfied with our answer.
- European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Our legal bases are your consent (photo library access, notifications), performance of a contract (unlocking a purchase you made), and our legitimate interest in answering support requests and keeping the app working. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Support emails are processed with our email provider, which may store them outside your country under standard contractual safeguards.
- California and other US states. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in state privacy laws, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising privacy rights.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change affects how the app handles your photos or adds any data collection, the app will tell you before that version starts collecting it. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
15. Contact
